Painting Symposium: Painting As Commitment

Saturday 21 June

10am - 4pm

£10.00 non-paintclubeast members, free for members

Paint Club East is delighted to present this symposium led by Dr Sunil Manghani, Reader in Critical and Cultural Theory at Winchester School of Art. With the advent of new narratives of protest, social networks and community-engagement, the "social" and the "political" in art has been back in the spotlight. What does this mean for the painter? What is the " commitment" of/to painting, as an aesthetic and/or ethical/political practice? Dr Manghani will be joined by 5 artists who will draw upon their own practices in exploring and interrogating the subject.
