5 December 2011: firstsite nominated for 'Kids in Museums' award

In the Learning spaces
We've had an amazing response from families with children since we opened to the public.
So we're delighted to learn that firstsite has been nominated for a 'Family Friendly Museum Award' by the excellent organisation Kids in Museums.
Kids in Museums has drawn up a 'manifesto' of 20 benchmarks that make for a positive, child-friendly experience in a gallery or museum. These include being interactive and hands-on, producing guides and trails so that the whole family can learn together, and being height and language aware.
At firstsite, we pride ourselves on being accessible and easy to navigate. We've got plenty of spacious toilets with baby-changing facilities, high chairs in our café, and a dedicated children's guide so kids can navigate themselves round our exhibitions and interpret the artwork on their own.
If you haven't already done so, check out our programme of events for children - and if you can't commit to booking in advance you can still enjoy drop-in Family games every Saturday and Sunday any time you're passing!
