Lion King paintbrush
Suffolk artist Dale Devereux Barker makes art out of all sorts of things: out of pictures, out of work, out of humour, out of frustration, out of sex, out of sitting on the beach.
A printmaker specialising in reduction linocuts and screenprints, his work combines a celebration of colour and form with warmly engaging subject matter.
The events of everyday life are transformed into colourful images loaded with humour and feeling.
Objects about the home, mealtimes, figures in interiors or engaged in daily activity all take on a new life through his very personal imagery.
Excessive Pleasures
firstsite launched Dale Devereux Barker’s large solo show Excessive Pleasures at The Minories in 2000 before it embarked on a nationwide gallery tour.
Says Dale: 'I like to make extraordinary things derived from the ordinary. The great thing about this constantly evolving show was that I could spread my wings and tell the whole story of how I work, adding new works as the exhibition toured as well as responding to the different contexts in which it was seen.'
