ArC: Schools Exhibition
Artist Space

firstsite is delighted to showcase artworks created during this new research project Arc (Art Research & Citizenship), that invited seven artists to work with seven Colchester primary schools, using visual art to explore notions of citizenship.

Working with a class each over an intensive five-day residency during May and June, artists brought a range of complementary skills and approaches, from concrete relief’s to thread drawing to huge cardboard sculpture.

Pupils’ initial research into their local communities to develop their understanding of citizenship was the starting point for creative activities leading to the finished artworks presented in this exhibition. Each artwork will ultimately be returned to the school in which it was created as a permanent legacy of the project.
