ArC - Art reflecting Citizenship
ArC is a three year partnership project initiated by firstsite, CSN Consultancy, Colchester Consortium and funded by Arts Council East. ArC places artists into schools and supports their collaboration with pupils and teachers in an exploration of the topical issue of ‘citizenship’: what it means to pupils at this point in their lives.
The project seeks to be innovative and creative for the artists, teachers and participants. It aims to examine the influence of the arts and creative practice on the development of intelligent citizens by involving schools and their wider communities in hands-on activities.
ArC began as a highly successful pilot project with 7 artists and 7 primary schools in 2005, supported by Creative Action Research Awards (CARA). The evidence from the action research undertaken and the feedback from teachers, pupils and schools, aided the project in attaining £81,000 from Arts Council East to support this unique and innovative project for a further three years.
