Artist Teacher Scheme
The Artist Teacher Scheme is a national programme of continuing professional development co-ordinated by the NSEAD (National Society for Education in Art and Design) and delivered by partnerships of galleries and higher education institutions.
firstsite, in partnership with Colchester Institute School of Art and Design, are delivering the Artist Teacher Scheme for the East of England, in Colchester.
All Artist Teacher Scheme courses are open to:-
- teachers of art and design with a graduate qualification in art and design who currently work in primary, secondary, further or higher education
- artist educators with a graduate qualification in art and design who work in schools or in gallery and museum programmes
Applications are welcome for artist teachers wishing to take part in 2009/10 in-take.

Post-graduate
MA Contemporary Art and Professional Practice, two years part time
September 2009
Devised and delivered jointly by firstsite and Colchester School of Art and Design and validated by the University of Essex, this masters programme is for art and design teachers and artist educators who wish to re-awaken their creative practice through critical engagement with contemporary visual arts practices.
Attendance is generally every other Saturday where students will attend tutorials, lectures and seminars at the School of Art and Design at the Minories and the new firstsite contemporary art gallery. Uniquely the cohort will have a group studio space at the Minories, accessible throughout the two years of study, in which to develop personal creative practice. Additionally students will be able to access the art and design workshop areas of printmaking, photography, digital, wood/metal/plastics, ceramics on Thursday evenings at Colchester Institute.
Course fees for the MA Contemporary Art and Professional Practice are generously subsidised by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) as part of their Postgraduate Professional Development fund and are available to teachers with Qualified Teacher Status working in maintained schools in England.
